Women in Leadership Forum Set for CPhI North America 2019

The program and speakers for CPhI North America’s third Women in Leadership Forum have been announced, happening on Thursday, May 2 from 8:00am–11:00am in Chicago, IL.

On April 17, 2019, CPhI North America announced details of its third annual Women in Leadership Forum, taking place at CPhI North America 2019 on Thursday, May 2, from 8:00am­­–11:00am in Chicago, IL.

The forum seeks to address key issues through constructive dialogue from industry experts who will share experiences and strategies with the goal of supporting equality in the pharmaceutical industry. The forum’s central theme, “From Manager to Leader,” encourages both men and women senior pharmaceutical professionals to share a defining moment in their leadership journey, with the goal of providing learned strategies for success, connection to a wider community, and tips on improving leadership skills. The panel will be moderated by Alise Cortez, PhD, a Purpose and Engagement catalyst and host of the Working on Purpose radio show.

The program for this year’s forum includes:

  • 8:00am–8:30am­-Breakfast and networking 

  • 8:30am­–8:35am-Welcome and introduction from the chair, Alise Cortez.

  • 8:35am­–9:25am-Pharma leaders share lessons learned in their “From Manager to Leader” journey and how defining moments can be used in career development. Specific focus in this session will cover a range of subjects, such as:

  • Effective communication strategies: How does the delivery of both verbal and non-verbal cues affect ability to communicate and influence?

  • Authentic leadership: how life experience affects leadership style and why women don’t have to act like a man to be taken seriously.

  • Building a future-fit workforce: what structures are in place and what needs to be removed to ensure everyone can fulfill their full potential?

  • Creating allies, acknowledging privilege, and advocating others: how can women learn to navigate their careers like men?

  • Preparing yourself to be in a male-dominated environment: what does it mean to be one of the only women in the room?

  • 9:30am­–10:15am-Campfire session with Alise: join speakers on the sofa with Alise to delve deeper into their stories and ask questions about career challenges. 

  • 10:15­am–11:00am-Build your Personal Brand: in this speed networking session, attendees will be challenged to think about what they need this year to help build their “personal brand.” Attendees are asked to be prepared to ask for three things they need and to share 10 intentions to help others achieve their needs and intentions.
