Open nominations were accepted through the AAPS website, emails to membership, and the AAPS Newsmagazine in early 2018. Elections will be held in June/July 2018, with the new slate of board members beginning their term in November 2018 at the AAPS PharmSci 360 meeting in Washington, DC. The AAPS Nominations Committee considered the knowledge, skill sets, and attitudes necessary to lead AAPS in advancing the organization’s mission. The organization aims to advance the capacity of pharmaceutical scientists to develop products and therapies that improve global health.
The candidates for president-elect are Joseph W. Polli, PhD, FAAPS, GlaxoSmithKline and Gopi Shankar, PhD, MBA, FAAPS, Janssen R&D (Johnson & Johnson).
Candidates for treasurer are Mark J. Rose, PhD, CHDI Management and William E. Weiser, PhD,
Patheon, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Member-at-large candidates are Meena Subramanyam, PhD, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company and Douglas H. Sweet, PhD, Virginia Commonwealth University.
The voting deadline is July 31, 2018 and results will be announced in August, according to the association in a press release.
