Sanofi Wins ISPE FOYA Overall Award

Sanofi’s Digitally Enabled Integrated Continuous Biomanufacturing Facility in Framingham, MA was named the Overall Award winner at the ISPE virtual annual meeting.

Sanofi was named the 2020 Facility of the Year Awards (FOYA) Overall Award winner by the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) at ISPE’s virtual awards banquet at the virtual annual meeting, the organization announced in a Nov. 3, 2020 press release. In April 2020, Sanofi received the Facility of the Future Category Award for its Digitally Enabled Integrated Continuous Biomanufacturing Facility in Framingham, MA. The facility’s continuous upstream and downstream processing design incorporates lean operations principles, and the facility design and the use of disposable process technology enables flexibility. Digital integration is extensive; the entire facility is run using a comprehensive suite of digital solutions.

According to the press release, achieving higher capacity in a smaller footprint provides the basis for an improved environmental footprint with:

  • More than 90% reduction in chemical usage per year
  • More than 90% reduction in water usage per year
  • 80% reduction in energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions per year
  • More than 320 tons of waste saved from landfills every year.
