New Ultra-Low-Temp Freezer Increases Cold-Storage Performance

Article

Telstar reports that its Boreas, a new 86° ultra-low-temperature freezer, increases average performance by 20%.

A new range of ecological ultra-low-temperature freezers developed by Telstar, a life sciences equipment supplier, offers up to 20% greater performance and robustness than the market average, as reported by the company. The increased performance is the result of the implementation of a new mechanical design that enhances the efficiency and quality level of freezing and cold-storage procedures.

The new ultra-low-temperature freezer is meant to reinforce the reliability and integrity of the cold preservation process and to further minimize any potential technical risks, such as mechanical breakage rates, disruptions, and obstructions. It also provides extended lifetime to the whole equipment.

The Boreas ultra-low-temperature freezer is equipped with vacuum panels that ensures high insulation quality and guarantee a temperature of -86 °C under ambient conditions up to +35° C. The thin insulation provides the freezer with an enlarged storage capacity of up to 30% compared to standard freezers designed with polyurethane foam-based panels. The new equipment also contains improved door-locking and blocking processes, a new access mode to the pre-filters zone, a greater chamber space, and a new location for the electrical box.

New door hinges located outside the body of the freezer have been adapted to ensure a solid closing system. Together with the integration of two new door magnetic seals, the new hinges form a protective barrier from the ice within the freezer. A bigger inner chamber radius offers greater uniformity, and an electrical box has been moved to the side, which guarantees better airflow and allows better service access and reliability. In addition, a direct-access pre-filter allows access without the need to open the freezer door. This prevents ice from accumulating insider the freezer.

Originally launched in 2012, Telstar’s line of ecological ultra-low-freezers range from low-temperature -45 °C to ultra-low-temperature -86 °C. They are focused on the efficient and safe storage of samples in the laboratory and research process.

The company will introduce its new range of ultra-low-temperature freezers under the Boreas brand at Analytica 2018 in Munich, Germany, on April 10–13, 2018.
